Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

“We must take on adventures & challenges in order to know where we truly belong.”

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is a highly praised trekking route of the Everest region. Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek also known as Everest Classic Trek is the traditional trekking route in Nepal followed by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary in their first ascent of the Mount Everest in 1953. Our trekking trail begins at an altitude of 1800m and crosses numerous ridges: dropping low to rivers at around 1500m and ascending passes over 3000m. This Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking route is still used by porters and pack animals, but fewer trekkers than Lukla to Base Camp Trek.

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek begins with 6 hours drive from Kathmandu to Bhandar. After an eight hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, our trek starts the following morning, by passing through the lower parts of Everest region that are relatively undeveloped compared to the northern side of the district around Namche Bazaar. This trek will take you the neck of the world highest peak Mt. Everest (8,848m) up to the Base Camp (5,357m) from the sea level. Walking along this trek involves many ups and down hills with the trail being well serviced with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages. Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri further enriches our experience about typical Himalayan life when we pass through the residential area of Benkar, Chumoa and Monjo to arrive at the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park. Rest and acclimatization days are taken at Junbesi (2680m, visit the Thubten Chholing Monastery) and at Namche Bazaar (3440m, the business hub of the Khumbu region). The trail passes through numerous villages of different ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, and Chettri and of course the Sherpa’s. This enables trekkers to experience many traditional aspects of culture and local people. As we leave behind murmuring stream of Khumbu Glacier, we enter the vicinity of mightiest of the mighty Mount Everest at Lobuche. From Lobuche we shall march ahead towards Gorak Shep. Vegetation now becomes more stunted and eventually gives way to rock, ice and pure breathtaking glacial landscapes. This trek route offers to us the package of natural beauty and exceptionally rich cultural experience. Finally when we reach the climax of our Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek at Kala Patthar we are received by the vista of grand summits from all possible sides. And then we retrace our steps back to reach Lukla for our flight to Kathmandu where we shall end our trek.

Good boots, warm-waterproof clothing, a good sleeping bag, day pack camera sunscreen and hat are essential items in our Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trekking. Normally to experience this remarkable trek the best season will be April to mid June and September to November. It’s a classic trek which will give you an unbeatable experience of natural beauty, cultural splendor and panoramic view of mountains for which you need to have good physical fitness. Join now and be a part of Buddha Eye Treks to experience a surreal adventure in our Jiri to Everest Base Camp.
